Photography

When I was younger, I spent a lot of time at my grandparent’s house, especially for big family events and holidays. Without fail, you would always catch my grandpa in the corner of the room with his digital camera glued to his face, capturing essentially every second of the event through his lens. I never understood it, and I could never ask because of our language barrier. So, I just assumed it was an old-person thing.

Apparently, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. My mother also inherited whatever gene he had that caused him to document every living second of his life, but with the revolution of the phone camera, it felt truly never-ending. I still didn’t understand it, but maybe my mom was just getting to that age. During quarantine, I decided to pick up new hobbies, including film photography. I got a ton of tiktoks on my for you page about film cameras, and I thought, “No way I’m at that age already.”

Turns out, I inherited that same gene, but I discovered that it’s not so much an age thing as it is a feeling thing. To me, my camera is a window through which I can gain a glimpse into my past. Film photography is particularly interesting to me because I have to consider which moments I truly value and want to capture since there is a limited number of shots per roll. I’m no pro and do this fully for myself, so don’t expect too much. Though, I hope you enjoy it.
